New York Readers’ Passion to Share the Gospel

Lapp girls

“Dear Cassie, Nelson, & the Gospel Express team,

Greetings from Northern NY! We live on the Theresa/Philadelphia line in Jefferson County (45 minutes Northwest of Naumburg). We were present on December 11th at the Christmas tour at Naumburg Mennonite Church, and we lost power due to the wind. You guys finished using candles for light and your bus generator for the sound system 😊. That is also where we heard about the Read-A-Thon and wrote asking for more info😊. The Read-A-Thon sounded like a good fit for our family, especially being Lorilee and Sadie are avid readers and we believe in the power of the written and spoken Word of God to change lives for eternity! 😊

We had 32 donors—saved and unsaved. Facebook was a tool we used [to promote the need for sponsors], and we even got a donation from Louisiana and one from Indiana because Facebook goes where we can’t! Support pledges came from family, friends, community members, school staff, and even our local librarians at the public library where we borrowed some of the books Lorilee and Sade Mae read. And, of course, from our church family too! <3 The community support was amazing!

Two people who pledged were my dad (Grandpa) and our 4th born, Emily. When Grandpa found out how generous Emily had been, he was NOT going to be outdone by his granddaughter… lol😊! So, he wrote another check! Emily found out what Grandpa did, and she was determined Grandpa was NOT going to out-do her, so she wrote another check too! LOL! More Bibles!!! to the glory of God! 😊 😊 😊

My cousin challenged Lorilee & Sadie Mae if they could read a combined total of 10,000 pages in those 30 days, she would double her pledge 😊. My second cousin and his wife pledged $1.25 for every book they completed in the 30 days 😊. Everyone else did a “one and done” pledge, including Tom & me, their parents 😊. We pledged a $1 per day. Thank you for this exciting privilege to raise funds for Bibles 😊!

Stats: Lorilee Rose (age 13) read 3,385 pages & completed 26 books. Sadie Mae HOPE (age 11) read 6,829 pages and completed 42 books. $1,958 total was raised and approximately 326 Bibles are going to Africa! 😊”
